Art for the Guides
Each one of us has the ability to tap in to a magical, supportive, unseen world, where we can meet and build relationships with our guides and allies. In this world we can open to receive guidance, healing and support from the realm of spirit. Having representations of the beings that support us, helps to connect us more deeply with their wisdom.
Earth Art
Scientific research shows that feeling a sense of meaning whilst in nature is a pathway to deeper nature connection. Beauty, compassion, emotion and contact (towards nature) have also been found to increase nature connection (https://www.derby.ac.uk/blog/5-ways-closer-nature/). Creating artwork in nature, from nature, for nature is a sacred act of gratitude which can reconnect us with the earth. Earth Art is a physical manifestation, an altar of love showing our gratitude for the planet. Imbued with a sense of reverence and beauty, the viewer is often moved into their own form of sacred relating with the planet.
Natural Anatomy
The aim of this peice was to capture the intrinsic nature of humans as children of the earth. How on the inside, we are nature…
Outsider Artwork
‘Outsider art’ is done by people who are untrained in western art practices. Tribal cultures, children and those with special needs all count as ‘outsider artists’. My creative practice has become imbued with this as I am currently the primary carer for my sister Mia, who has downsyndrome. She has begun all my recent peices (the two following paintings). She begins with pencil on canvas, free flowing with colour and form. She creates without thought, plan or complication. I am inspired by her free flow of creativity and have found magic, presence and therapy whilest co- creating these peices with her. Once she is done with her sketches I use them as a starting point for my acrylic paintings.
Creativity for all
Creativity is an intrinsic part of being a human and yet, many are disconnected from their creative process because ‘it isnt good enough’ or once someone told them they couldnt do it. I feel that all people should create, simply for the sake of it. Art that is created without plan or final purpose, simply in the moment without pressure, is pure in both its creation and its final form. I beleive we can tap into something bigger than ourselves by creating this way.
